Ateliê Tauá Cerâmica Cris Rocha

The great passion of Chris Rocha to work with her hands led to Taua Cerâmica in 1985. The indigenous name refers to the very fine clay that the Indians use to apply and polish their pieces.

The first works were made in raku (centuries-old Japanese technique used in the tea ceremony) and burned in gas or wood oven.

During her studies, Chris Rocha built an anagama oven, thus starting her work in wood burning and research of ash glazes.

Currently, at the Taua Cerâmica are made decorative and utilitarian pieces at low and high temperature, using electric, gas and firewood ovens. Besides the handmade pieces, it is also used electric and manual potter’s wheel.

The studio is open for scheduled visits and offers regular courses for beginners and potters as well as numerous workshops and demonstrations.
